In this article, I’d be referring to Mark Grayson by his first name as well as his alter ego, Invincible, interchangeably.

Nolan has a new friend

Allen joins force with Nolan/Omni-Man

We got a glimpse into the Viltrumite prison after Allen the Alien was taken captive by the Viltrumite after attacking Anissa. His goal was to work with Nolan/Omni-Man to break out and help defeat the Viltrumites.

At first, Nolan wasn’t interested in any friendship with Allen or escaping. However, after his persistent tries, he finally got to Nolan and helped stage a prison break fight. He also ran into Battle Beast, who was ready for some worthy opponents — as usual.

Just as Nolan was being interrogated and about to be executed by some Viltrumites, help arrived, and they were all whooshed into the vast vacuum of space. Together, Nolan and Allen combined to absolutely annihilate a Viltrumite and escaped.

The Invincible War

The Invincible variants during the Invincible War

We were introduced to not-so-friendly Invincible variants, brought to Mark Grayson’s world by Angstrom Levy. We saw how Mark would have fared if he had joined the dark side.

The variants featured were — Moustache Invincible, Long Hair Invincible, Light Invincible, Cowl Invincible, Veil Invincible, Bulletproof Invincible, Retro Invincible, Flaxan Invincible, Sinister Invincible, Viltrum Invincible, Mohawk Invincible, Unmasked Invincible, Target Invincible, Prisoner Invincible, Omni-Invincible, and Dark Invincible.

My favourites were Sinister Invincible and Mohawk InvincibleOmni-Invincible was also cool, especially with his line “Swearing doesn’t make you cool” 😅

Rex Splode’s Redemption Arc

Rex had an incredible redemption arc

Rex has been a cocky character from S1, but we got to see him maturing in S3. He worked hard to change his personality to a more responsible teammate and mature friend.

He also began a new chapter with Shrinking Rae, which was exciting and promising. Unfortunately, we won’t get to see how far the journey went as Rex selflessly sacrificed himself to save his teammates during the Invincible War, charging his skeleton to take out an Invincible variant so he didn’t hurt his friends.

“Stand Ready for My Arrival, Worm!”

Conquest arrives on Earth

The best part was saved for last in the penultimate episode titled I Thought You’d Never Shut Up, where we saw Invincible absolutely bullied by Conquest, voiced by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Recall in S2, Anissa told Mark that the Viltrumite would send another to check up on his progress, and what an arrival from Conquest. With his iconic opening line, “Stand ready for my arrival, worm”, we finally got a glimpse into this character.

Conquest is an older Viltrumite who was sent to check up on Invincible’sprogress on getting the planet ready for the Viltrum Empire. After confirming Invincible wasn’t ready to comply, Conquest unleashed his fury. Despite Invincible’s training, which drastically improved his strength, speed and durability, he was no match for a seasoned Viltrumite warrior like Conquest.

He tossed and slammed Invincible like a doll, was way faster and so savage, he said he didn’t necessarily believe in the Viltrum cause, but was here for the fun of demolishing his enemies.

Invincible got some help briefly from his brother Oliver, but that was short-lived. Atom Eve got wind of the battle and, despite her injuries, she flew over to help out.

She did stand her ground for some time, but it wasn’t enough as Conquest broke through her constructs and punched her so hard that her face was disfigured. He also impaled her using his hand, causing her to fall towards the ground, unconscious.

Mark, desperate and infuriated at the supposed loss of his love interest, called for Cecil and faced off with Conquest one last time.

“I’ve seen the future; you don’t live to see tomorrow” were uttered before charging at Conquest with all his might, which shattered Conquest’s mechanical arm (impressive) but also damaged his arm badly.

Atom Eve overcame her mental blocks to rebuild her body and blasted Conquest, skinning him and catching him by surprise.

Further attacks saw Mark's left arm damaged, so he resorted to headbutting Conquest’s head into the ground.

The scene comes to a close with Cecil and scientists from the GDA arriving on the scene to transport Mark and Eve.

The voice acting

Steven Yeun’s voice acting during the series has been top tier

We were treated to a stellar cast of voice actors. Steven Yeun, Gillian Jacobs, K Simmons, Jason Mantzouka and more. They helped bring life to these characters.

I’d like to highlight Steven Yeun’s performance (which had been awesome through the whole series), but was brought to another level in S3.

During the Invincible War, you could tell watching the Invincible variants that even though they were based on the same character, they were distinct personalities. The tone variations, mannerisms and more were just mindblowing to see. That’s one reason I love Sinister Mark/Invincible.

Just before they are trapped in an alternate dimension by Angstrom Levy, we see the variants having a discussion with Angstrom about their rewards for carrying out his deeds. Each of them had something unique they wanted. We even got to see bickering between them.

Mark’s final resolve

After delaying to finish off Angstrom Levy, Mark vows to use lethal force against anyone who threatens the lives of his loved ones.

Cecil’s error?

Cecil looking at Conquest while being restrained — a big mistake in the making

Cecil invites Mark to see the body of Conquest after their battle, which is held in the Pentagon. Mark then explicitly tells Cecil to burn the body. Cecil agrees, but later on, we see him at an underground location with a device holding a badly disfigured Conquest.

Surely nothing good comes from this decision.

S4 teasers

We get a shot of Angstrom in a dimension with some robots, and it seems like he’d need to cooperate with them to achieve his goals.

We also see Damien Darkblood returning, summoning an entity I don’t know, and he mentions summoning a surface dweller with “a dark heart”. Who could this be?
